Marc
Dürscheidt had a dream: to one day own a BMW M1, the super sports car legend
from the eighties, and once the fastest car in Germany. These classics
usually cost around six-figures, and therefore unattainable for most 28
year-olds…until one day, when a Munich garage opened their doors for him – and behind
a treasure was revealed.
Marc was
looking for a M1 kit car when he found something really interesting on eBay.. A
private seller offered the body of an M1-just 5 panels....
This build started back in August/September. The engine and transmission were purchased online at a viper salvage yard from a 2006 viper with 14k miles. I received the whole dropout assembly making sure I got everything that touched the car down to the smallest things like throttle cables and wiring brackets.
The goal with the car is to build something different. I'd like for the car to still have a light nimble feel to it but realize i will have to sacrifice some of that to make this...
If you know the show Chasing Classic Cars, then you know Wayne Carini. He's that funny little man that will "do anything to chase down that car". IMO, it's easily the best automotive show on television right now (Top Gear America? Go hike the canyon and jump off a cliff). With that said, my friends and I were amped to go to their annual open house.
Our expectations? To see the most premium classic cars in the north east; and we weren't far off.
We woke up bright and early Saturday morning...
It's funny how you find the coolest shops in the strangest places. A friend shot me the invite, couldn't explain much more than a car meet in Long Island. Without much more detail than that, I was in.
Rolling up the shop, you get the sense of what kind of meet up this was going to be. A showing of some good, some bad, and some big surprises. In my opinion, those kind of meets are the best.
We spotted this sexy Genesis on the way in.
Everything about this car is right....
